Legislative Day

2/6/2017

legday1

Calling all Practitioners, Students, Educators, Clients and Advocates! We're Gearing Up for Legislative Day again! This year, we're giving out CEUs for full participation. On Monday, February 20th, NMOTA will host the annual Occupational Therapy Legislative Advocacy Day at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe. Last year, we ascended the Capitol with over 150 students from across our state, therapists, faculty, educators, and consumers of occupational therapy!

Let's do it again. This is a big year for us. We will need your help! In 2015, our Scope of Practice Bill was pocket vetoed. This year, we'll have another chance to pass it.
We've already been busy presenting to Interim Committees, drafting our updated Scope of Practice Bill, and presenting the "State of the State" at our annual NMOTA Conference. Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino, and Representative Liz Thompson informed our NMOTA Confrence attendees that the most powerful ways to advocate are: (1) to contact them directly as constituents via e-mail and phone before the session begins and ask for their support of our bill, and (2) to show up in large numbers to educate legislators on a designated day.

On Monday the 20th of February, we'll gather again to advocate at the Capitol. Before then, please use the "Scope of Practice 2017 Talking Points" and "How to Contact Your Legislator" pages to guide you through the process of informing your legislators that you will be looking for their support of our bill this session!
